Russian pianist, composer, and arranger (born 1871 in St. Petersburg, Russian Empire – died 1942 in Leningrad, USSR) After graduating from the St. Petersburg Conservatory, Alexander Nikolayevich Chernyavsky worked as an accompanist on the stages of St. Petersburg and a number of provincial cities. In addition, he composed many romances, songs, couplets, and military marches. Chernyavsky composed gypsy romances like "Жалобно стонет ветер осенний" ("The Autumn Wind Moans Plaintively," after a poem by А. Пугачев) and "Колокольчики-бубенчики звенят" ("Bells Are Ringing," after a poem by Степан Петров). He also wrote music in the Romance style, such "У Колодца" ("At The Well," lyrics by Спиридон Дрожжин; "Вижу чудное приволье…" ("I See A Wonderful Freedom," lyrics by Феодосий Савинов); "Наша улица, зелены поля" ("Our Street Is Like The Green Fields," lyrics by Николай Панов (2)). His march "Маршируют новобранцы" ("Recruits Are Marching") was sung by Russian soldiers in World War I. After the Russian revolution, Chernyavsky continued to live and write for the stage in his hometown.
