Valentin Cherenkov is a Russian flutist. Born in 1949 in Leningrad. Graduate of the Leningrad Order of Lenin State Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov (1972). Associate Professor of the Department of Woodwind Instruments of the St. Petersburg Conservatory named after Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2000). From 1971 to 1992 he was the soloist-regulator of the flute group of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Evgeny Mravinsky. From 1992 to 2016 he was soloist of the flute group of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra (Kirov Orchestra). In 2009 he was invited by the chief conductor of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra Yuri Simonov as the curator of the woodwind group to work with the international youth orchestra. He was invited to work with the woodwind group of the student orchestra of the St. Petersburg Conservatory by conductor Dmitry Ralko for the participation of the orchestra in concerts conducted by Vassily Sinaisky and Vladimir Ashkenazy.
