German conductor, pianist and classical trumpet player "Born in Hanover, Germany in 1969, Leo Siberski began his piano and trumpet studies at the age of five. He has extensive experience as an orchestra musician with the Staatsorchester Hannover, the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra and, since 1992, he has held the position of principal trumpet at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. He began his conducting studies in 1996 under Prof. Rolf Reuter in Berlin. Leo Siberski made his conducting debut in 1997 with Peter Maxwell Davies’ opera Cinderella at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin where he has continued a close relationship until today. He is currently working as assistant to Daniel Barenboim and has conducted concerts including Mahler’s Lied von der Erde (Schönberg version) and Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale. For the 2003/04 season, he is working on productions of La Traviata, Pique Dame, Ariadne auf Naxos and Turandot. His operatic conducting has grown significantly over the past seasons, culminating in his Glyndebourne Festival debut in 2003 conducting performances of Die Fledermaus. He will return to Glyndebourne in 2004 to work with Vladimir Jurowski in a new production of Die Zauberflöte. Future plans also include productions of Il Travatore and Turandot at the National Theatre of Ias, Romania. Previous engagements have included La finta giardiniera (Landestheater Gera), Gärtnerin aus Liebe (Schlosspark-Theater Berlin), Cosi fan tutte (Staatstheater Mainz), Il Tabarro, Wiener Blut, Le nozze di Figaro, and Im Weissen Rössl (Landestheater Wittenberg),Tannhäuser and Otello (Theater Plauen Zwickau) and L’elisir d’amore (Theater Görlitz). Based in Berlin, Leo Siberski is Artistic Director of both the Kammerphilharmonie Berlin and the Berliner Sibelius Orchestra. He has also conducted the Berliner Sinfoniker, the Berliner Sinfonie- Orchester, the Staatsorchester Hanover, the Philharmonisches Orchester Plauen and Zwickau, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Bremer Philharmoniker and Philharmonisches Orchester des Staatstheaters Cottbus. For the 2002 film "Taking Sides" (Der Fall Furtwängler), Leo Siberski was chosen to coach the actor Stellan Skarsgard for Furtwängler’s conducting scenes. In January 2007 he gave his debut at Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden conducting "The Magic Flute" by Mozart while in March 2007 Leo Siberski will conduct the German premiere of Zdenek Fibich’s opera "The Tempest" at the Theatre Bielefeld."
