German composer and arranger, born in Trebbin (Teltow-Fläming district of Brandenburg) in 1927. Gerhard Kneifel learned the accordion at the age of 8. From 1946 to 1948 he studied trombone, double bass and composition at the conservatory and then he worked for radio and record. In 1960 he directed the Leipzig Radio Dance Orchestra and worked from 1963 to 1967 as chief arranger at the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin. In addition to some hit melodies, he also wrote a musical and an operetta. He recorded records with his own dance music for AMIGA and accompanied Manfred Krug with his orchestra, among others. Gerhard Kneifel died in 1992 in Leipzig (Saxony).
