Sidney Fine

American composer, arranger & orchestrator of Broadway, films, radio & TV 1940's-’60s. Born December 25, 1904 in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA. Died May 20, 2002 (aged 97) in Burbank, California, USA. Father of folk singer Judy Fine. Fine received an Emmy nomination in 1956 for his orchestrations of Victor Young’s music for the TV series Medic. He also served as one of the original orchestrators on Meredith Willson’s 1957 Broadway hit The Music Man. Fine co-composed Lady’s theme (with Oliver Wallace) from Lady and the Tramp and also worked on The Mickey Mouse Club TV series. Fine was the orchestrator on Bambi, Cinderella as well as Lady and the Tramp & arranged Dinah Shore’s vocals for Bongo. Fine graduated from the University of Connecticut and did postgraduate work at City College of New York and the Yale School of Music. Michael Jackson recored his song "Seeing Voices" in 1999. It is about sign language and was written about his son who was deaf. Fine played piano for silent movies in the 1920s, served as comedian Henny Youngman’s accompanist, and was a pianist and arranger on radio shows featuring Jack Benny, Dinah Shore, and George Burns and Gracie Allen.
