American tenor (Minneapolis, MN, July 6, 1888 - Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, CA, December 17, 1963). Discovered during a holiday in Germany, Meader studied voice in Berlin and made his debut as an opera singer in 1907 at the Leipzig State Opera as Steuermann in Richard Wagner's "Fliegender Holländer." He then pursued a successful career performing in operas, operettas and as a concert singer in London, Berlin, Amsterdam, and Stuttgart. Only in 1919 did he return to the United States. From 1921-1932, he was engaged at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, with guest performances in Baden-Baden, Paris, and Berlin. From 1931, he focused more on operetta. Later, he became an actor in Hollywood, acting in a series of movies and TV series between 1939-1959, including "The Monster and the Girl" (1941), "On the Town" (1949), and "Champagne for Caesar" (1950).
