British classical chamber & orchestral cellist, composer, and Professor of Cello. Born 13 April 1891 in Maida Vale, London, England, UK - Died 1978 in Steyning, Sussex, England, UK. He graduated from the Royal College Of Music, London in 1912. In 1915, he co-founded the Philharmonic Quartet. In 1924, he founded the Virtuoso String Quartet. He was also a member of several other ensembles (Chamber Music Player, Chamber Music Trio, English Trio, Trio Players, Harp Ensemble, and Cedric Sharpe Sextet (formed in 1930)). Former Principal Cello with The New Symphony Orchestra Of London (1930s & 1940s), The London Symphony Orchestra (1931-1939), Royal Albert Hall Orchestra (1940s), and Orchestra Of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (1940s). In 1928, he became Professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music for nearly 40 years. In 1913, he married Evelyn Sharpe.
