Jazz pianist, arranger, composer, educator. Steven Erickson is the pianist for the Airmen of Note, The United States Air Force Band, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. A native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, his Air Force career began in 1997 as a pianist for the Heartland of America Band, Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska. Erickson began his studies at Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance in 1987. He continued his education at Rice University, completing a Master of Music degree in piano performance in 1992. He served as the director of jazz studies at Truman State University from 1996 to 1997 where he taught jazz improvisation, pedagogy and music history, and directed the top jazz ensemble and combos. Erickson has served as an adjudicator, clinician and performer at the University of Kansas Jazz Festival, and has worked with Bobby Shew, Carl Fontana, Gary Foster, John Fedchock, Dave Liebman, Richard Carpenter and Toni Tennille. His teachers include Robert Smith, Robert Roux and Jack Winerock.
