Australian country music singer songwriter 1927 - Born in Broken Hill. Joe was involved in horse teams, drover, fencer, axeman, bush race jockey, slaughterman, boundary rider, wild dogger, rabbiter, roo shooter, tank sinking, miner and storeman. From these experiences came the inspiration for the songs he wrote. He learnt to play the guitar and would entertain at bush gatherings. 1965 – Met Slim Dusty at Longreach in Queensland. Wrote “Our Jacky”, which Slim Dusty recorded as “Trumby”. Slim recorded more than 50 of Joes songs. 1970’s – Recorded two four-track EP’s on Opal Records. Published a book of bush poems “I Leave You With a Song”. 1984 – Inducted into the Hands of Fame. South Australian Country Music Festival Awards- Inducted into the Hall of Fame. Awarded Life Membership to the Australian Bush Balladeers Association. 2002 – Released a 93 page volume of verse “Tracks I Leave Behind”. 2005 – Passed away on December 20th.
