Miłosz Magin (1929–1999) was a Polish composer and pianist who lived in Paris since 1960. He was born in Łódź and studied piano, violin, and cello, as well as composition with Kazimierz Sikorski and Jan Maklakiewicz. In 1957, Magin graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin University Of Music with the highest distinction. The pianist won prizes in several international concourses, including the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris and the Vianna da Motta Competition in Lisbon. His brilliant soloist career was interrupted in 1963 by a car crash and severe injury to the left wrist. With a long recovery, Milosz managed to regain his technique by the end of the sixties and started recording the complete works of Frédéric Chopin for Decca (the collection was reissued on CD in 2000). During the rehabilitation, Magin focused more on writing music. In 1985, he established the Miłosz Magin International Piano Competition for young talents, held every two years in Paris.
