Cult Hero was a side project of the members of The Cure in 1979, alongside Frank Bell as lead "singer" and Robert Smith's sisters Margaret and Janet (the latter of whom would later marry the founding guitarist of the Cure, Porl Thompson) on backing vocals. The band was created to see how well Robert Smith and eventual Cure bassist Simon Gallup would collaborate. All this, because Smith was considering Gallup as a possible replacement for Michael Dempsey (the Cure's bassist at the time). Cult Hero released a single featuring two disco-influenced new wave songs: "I'm a Cult Hero" and "I Dig You". Since they only had two songs of their own to perform on stage, they covered songs that were popular at the time. In 2004 they reunited and played a single "show" within an encore of an exclusive club performance by The Cure in London.
