US jazz trumpeter, nicknamed "Ham", born July 4, 1905 in St. Louis, Missouri died 1957 in New York City, New York. Davis played with Charlie Creath in St. Louis in 1924-1925, then moved to New York, where he played with Edgar Hayes 1927, Arthur Gribbs 1927-1928 and Charlie Johnson c. 1928-1929. Recorded with Eddie Condon in 1929. During the 1930s worked with Elmer Snowden 1930-1931, Don Redman 1931, Russell Wooding 1932, Benny Carter 1933, and Luis Russell 1934-1935. From October 1935 to spring 1937 member of Louis Armstrong's orchestra. Again with Hayes 1938-1939, touring Europe. In the 1940s worked intermittently with Alberto Socarras before ceasing to work full-time as musician.
