Alphastare

After a long hiatus from experimental music Jeff returned to the medium after missing the freedom of expression it provides. Before moving to California in the mid 90's Jeff operated in his hometown Buffalo NY in various ephemeral noise projects including Jackass, No Wire Hangers, Acoustic Folk Jam, Smackicide and Pisst Vengeance mostly featuring a rotating cast of members for each performance. Many of these performances were impromptu and band members selected that day. Around 1996 he moved to LA and recorded an album with LA outsider punk pioneers The Flesh Eaters led by Chris D. and played and toured a bit with them until 2000 when he transitioned into focusing on a band called The Alphastares a heavy psych rock 5 piece that played around LA for 4 or 5 years and ended when Jeff moved up to SF in 2003 where he continued to play live with artists including Javier Matos (Hud, Blue Shadows) and Wendy Gadzuk (440's, Betty Blowtorch). He recorded and released a vinyl record with Wendy as Andalusia Rose before focusing on noise and experimental music some time around 2014. Utilizing field recordings, tape loops, the occasional acoustic instrument and various synths including desktop and Eurorack modular, Jeff started doing gigs around The Bay Area as "Alphastare" and has appeared at events such as The annual Outsound New Music Summit and Nor Cal Noisefest in Sacramento as well as various small venues such as The Luggage Store Gallery and The Honey Hive both in SF.
