Luigi Simoni, known as Gigi (Crevalcore, 22 January 1939 - Pisa, 22 May 2020), was a sports manager, football coach and Italian footballer, a midfielder role. As a coach he got eight promotions from professional leagues (record shared with Osvaldo Jaconi, who also got three other promotions from amateur leagues, two on the field and one with repechage), with 7 promotions in Serie A with Genoa (1975-1976 and 1980-1981), Brescia (1979-1980), Pisa (1984-1985 and 1986-1987), Cremonese (1992-1993) and Ancona (2002-2003), and one in Serie C1 with Carrarese (1991-1992) . In 2003, on the occasion of the centenary of the Cremonese, he was named "coach of the century" of the Grigiorossi. In 2013 Genoa included Simoni in its Hall of Fame.
