Maťkovia (Mathews) were more or less free studio group of musicians from 1982 to 1986 led by Martin Burlas. They felt emptiness of "soc-pop" music and also they were influenced by punk, new wave or synth-pop bands. Maťkovia were making "infantile", ironic songs with different music genre. Mainly it was alternative, indie rock or synth-pop. Songs were recorded in legal studios (mostly in IRŠ Tlis studio). Their songs were underground distributed on cassettes or reel-to-reel tapes, because the former communist government thought, that their songs are so rebel and provocative to be officially released. After fall of communism in Czechoslovakia in 1989, they released only one compilation LP on Zoon records in 1991. They are also considered as a founders of alternative / indie rock scene in Slovakia. One of lead musician - Martin Burlas - is music composer, who still continue with different music activities to present times.
