Leonard Brooks

Leonard "Congo" Brooks worked the clubs (both big and small) on the south side of Chicago. Known for his precision use of conga bongos, Congo's name became synonymous with Latin and Jazz clubs in Chicagoland, even so far as Evergreen Park. Leaning heavy on Latin, Jazz, Blue and Swing, Congo was renowned for his skill with Latin instruments and his taste in music. Playing music for locals and celebrities alike, by the 1960-2000, Congo was the go to DJ on Chicago's south side, even earning him the honorary title of "The Professor" by Wayne Dotsun. The height of Latin, Jazz and Blues clubs tapered just as Congo retired, a coincidence, perhaps.
