Albert Allick "Al" Bowlly was born on January 7th, 1899 in the small town of Lourenço Marqueswas, in Mozambique, South Africa. His father was a Greek Orthodox and his Mother was a Lebanese Catholic. He was a very popular British Jazz singer, guitarist and crooner in the United Kingdom during the 1930s, becoming one of the biggest singers of the decade. He made more than 1,000 recordings between 1926 and 1941. He was killed by the explosion of a parachute mine outside his flat on Jermyn Street, on April 17th, 1941 in London during the Blitz. He was 42.
