KINDRED were a short-lived American rock-band from the early 1970’s lead by guitarist, singer, writer, and producer Bobby Cochran, who is the nephew of rock’n’roll pioneer Eddie Cochran. The band came into prominence as an opening act to THREE DOG NIGHT with whom they toured all over United States and Canada for more than a year. In 1971 they got a deal from Reprise Records to make their debut album, which was entitled “Kindred” and was produced by Chuck Negron, one of the three lead vocalists of Three Dog Night. Fronted by two lead singers, Marty Rodgers and Gloria Giano, KINDRED performed colorful, soulful, male-female polyvoiced, and energetic Rock music, combining the influences from classic Soul, Funk, R’n’B, Blues, Hard-Rock, and Psychedelic Rock. They had a strong focus on melody and arrangement with vast feature of electric keyboards, guitars, and variety of percussion instruments. In 1972, KINDRED released their second LP “Next of Kin” and disbanded. Bobby Cochran joined John Kay's STEPPENWOLF and recorded three albums with that band. In the 80’s, he formed an all-star group BOBBY AND THE MIDNITES (with Bob Weir, Billy Cobham, Alphonso Johnson, and others).
