Jan van Ossenbruggen, born Wormerveer October 5, 1939, died Hoorn May 20, 2021, was a Dutch conductor, music teacher and a performing musician on trumpet. He was educated at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, majoring trumpet and piano. As a freelance musician, Jan performed with the Concertgebouworkest with Leonard Bernstein as the guest drector. He was also educated in orchestral conducting by Félix Hupka. His military career started in 1958 as a trumpeter at De Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine of Rotterdam. In 1959 he was also assigned to the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel of The Hague. From 1960 to 1966, he was the principal solo trumpeter. As a soloist, Jan performed at the naming ceremony of the Dutch King, Willem-Alexander on September 2, 1967. In 1966, Jan was appointed bandmaster at the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel (1966) and deputy conductor (1972). In 1974 he became the conductor at the Johan Willem Friso Kapel of Assen. In 1978 he returned to the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel to be the new conductor, until March 1, 1978. Next, Jan became the Inspector of Military Music at the Royal Netherlands Army, and Inspector Military Music of the Armed Forces (1989-1994).
