Об исполнителе:
Band formed by Walter Hyatt with Champ Hood and David Ball (3), two musicians who like Hyatt grew up in or near Spartanburg, South Carolina. The trio moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1972, where they caught the attention of Willis Alan Ramsey, a Texas singer and songwriter. The group specialized in combining advanced three-part harmony singing in the manner of Crosby, Stills, and Nash with original songwriting influenced by traditional pop, western swing, and US roots music including country, New Orleans R&B, Cajun music, and soul. In 1974 the group released its first album, 'Blame It on the Bossa Nova', on it's own Lespedeza Record Company label. Uncle Walt's Band broke up initially 1975. At this time, Hyatt and Hood joined the group The Contenders (6), an electric group that also combined popular singer-songwriter styles of the 1970s with harmony vocals and prominent country, soul, and R&B influences. In 1978, Uncle Walt's Band played a reunion gig in Austin, a city to which the members had relocated, and the success that performance initiated a reunion that lasted for several years and saw the recording of three additional albums. During this period, the group appeared on the nationally-televised concert series 'Austin City Limits'. From 1982 until 1993, Uncle Walt's Band reunited occasionally as the group's members pursued solo careers in Austin and Nashville. Hyatt's death during the crash of ValuJet Flight 592 in Florida in 1996 precluded any further reunions. Though Uncle Walt's Band's four independently released albums had limited distribution and sales during the group's lifetime, ongoing fan interest prompted reissues of their music on two Sugar Hill Records compilations in 1991, and on Omnivore Records' comprehensive reissue series from 2018-2021.
