Cy Tucker was born on the 7th February 1943 in Liverpool. He sang and played rhythm guitar in one of the first Liverpool beat groups “Cy And The Cimmerons” who shared bills with The Beatles. In 1961, Tucker joined Earl Preston And The TT’s as the second lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. In 1963 the band had three tracks released on Oriole’s ”This Is Mersey Beat" compilations and a single on Fontana ‘I Know Something’. Backed by the band, Cy released a solo single on Fontana with ‘My Prayer’, a cover of the hit Platters number, under the name of “Cy Tucker with Earl Preston and The T-T’s“. According to Cy it sold about 28,000 copies. Cy left Earl Preston And The TT’s in early 1964 and formed Cy Tucker And The Friars who entertained the clubs of Liverpool for over 40 years. He released two more singles for Fontana ‘Let Me Call You Sweetheart’ and ‘My Friend’. From the late 1980's to late 1990's, Cy Tucker And The Friars gradually phased out their old name in favour of The Cy Tucker Band. When the group disbanded in 2010, Tucker continued to perform in clubs of Liverpool with long time Friars bandmate Arthur Kerevan as The Cy Tucker Two. Cy Tucker passed away on March 24, 2020, aged 76.
