(born 29 April 1932 - died 22 September 2023) Canadian producer, songwriter, manager and record company executive. Got his start in the music industry in 1947 at the age of 15 as a DJ on CHUM radio in Toronto. Founder of labels Tamarac Records, Tamarac, and Fingerprint (5), co-founder of the Red Leaf label and a Canadian Songwriters Hall of Famer. Owner of publishing companies Bigland Music, Colonel Walt Music and Svengali Music. Longtime partner of RPM Music Weekly founder and editor Walter Grealis, Klees was heavily involved with the magazine from its inception and was responsible for its design and layout at the start, through his design company Groovyart (later known as Music Ad & Art), co-founded with Bill Armstrong. Klees was the designer of the MAPL icon indicating the level of Canadian Content on Canadian releases, first used on his Tamara label. He was the founder of CIRPA (Canadian Independent Record Production Association) in 1971.
