Band formed in Blanes (Girona) around 1987 by Carlos Izaga (vocals), Tony Monterrubio (guitar), Steve J. Saunders (bass), "Suli" Campos (guitar and keyboards) and Billy Purdie (drums and percussion). After his first album Xavi Puig replaced bass player Steve J. Saunders , Puig came from Ilion group and later played on the band from spanish frontman Manzano and subsequently worked on backing vocals with Sangtraït . In Excess predominated as the main melodic hard rock musical style , being a group approaching to the principles of Blue Blood type formations . In 1988 they recorded on Mediteraneo Studios with Dennis Herman his first full length album called "Princess Of Darkness". The first edition of the album (of which only ten copies were edited) was rejected by Excess due the front cover was not liked by the band. After problems with the artwork real edition was distributed in the music market in the usual way. The album was titled 'Princess of Darkness ' with a total of eight songs , all in english language: ' If you want to lift ' , ' Steel meet with steel ' , ' Another Day ' , ' Shout to the wind ' , ' Princess of Darkness ' , 'Give me your heart' , ' Do not go away' and 'Still in time' . In 1989 participating in the festival "El Heavy No Es Violencia" at the Pabellón Municipal de Casetas (Zaragoza) with the bands Pedro Botero, Bruque, N -232, Reo, Sweatband, Aspid and Los Ultimos De Cuba . After a while, Steve J. Saunders leave the group, and guitar player Tony Monterrubio's name for the second album appears as "Richi" due it was the nickname the people called him. With the change of bass player, and arrived to 1990 , edited a preview of what would be his second and last album, as Maxi -single with the theme ' Gritarás, Llorarás ' for the Barcelona label BBA Records. In 1991 , appears "Sigo Al Tiempo" which, unlike the previous album , included all cuts in spanish language. This new work had little diffusion, due it was edited by a small label. The musical direction on this second album was more mainstream AOR/Melodic rock style in the vein of bands like FM, Magnum or Bon Jovi. Throughout his musical career , highlighted in the circuits of metal clubs in Spain, but the band split one year after the release ot his second album. The members of the band took different paths, Steve went to the UK to work on different projects, Carlos and Suli joined as a duo as "La Cara Oculta", they recorded a CD and then Carlos began his solo career while Suli (real name Jesus Campos) worked as session musician and is currently a sound technician. Billy has worked on multiple projects such as Hard Melody, Bizarre or So What !. Tony Monterrubio "Richi" spent time with the band Klown and then left the music.
