Rychard Cooper began working with the Moog modular synthesizer at Long Beach City College while earning his degree in Recording Engineering. While working as a freelance engineer, producer & sound designer, Rychard began building recording studios in the Los Angles area, including Trax Recording, Audio Paragon and Ignited Studios. Rychard returned to school earning his bachelor’s and master’s degree in composition. He taught audio production at Cypress College. He also taught composition and music theory for the California State Summer School for the Arts, which takes place every summer at Cal-Arts. While at Cal-Arts Rychard taught composition with Lou Harrison, Pauline Olivarsos, Paul Dresher, George Crumb, & John Adams. Rychard is now a professor of composition for the Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University Long Beach, where he teaches classes in electronic music, modular synthesis, digital media and sound design. He has also worked as Brian Eno’s assistant for his multi-media installation “77 Million Paintings”. In 2015 (along with Matt Pogue), Rychard created SynthLab, which is a collective of electronic musicians and visual artists based in Long Beach, CA. They have produced several multimedia concerts at the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Soundpedro and PUMP sound-festivals and at Synthplex.
