Pongauer Bauernkapelle Pokorny

Austrian folk music band, est. 1905 by Adolf Pokorny in Bischofshofen, Pongau, Austria. Pokorny, a flugelhorn player and band leader originally from the Sudeten area of Bohemia, owned an inn in Bischofshofen in the Pongau south of Salzburg. With other Bohemians who, like him, had moved to the Pongau around 1900 to find work in the area's mines, he formed a brass band that played Alpine folk music with a distinctly Bohemian flair. Between 1912-1914 and 1926-1932, the band recorded several hundred titles and enjoyed an international reputation.
