70s heavy psych rock band from Argentina. After the dissolution of the Seventh Brigade, the guitarist Jorge Montes left for Bolivia and there, together with two local musicians, he put together a trio called Mahatma. Since he had no luck, Montes returned to the country in 1971 and after a few weeks he began to rehearse with new musicians and named the project Montes Mahatma. After appearing in small theaters and after some changes in his formation, he entered the studios to record his first single with the songs "Pájaro nocturno" and "Un viaje al mar" (1973). But he had problems with the recording label and the edition was delayed. Meanwhile, he gave a concert at the Teatro Sha, Buenos Aires, which would mark the fate of the group in its performances in the capital, because (according to the critics of the time) he tried to imitate Deep Purple, which caused the audience to leave midway through the show. The single hit the rafts at the end of 1973 and due to contract problems he appeared as Montes. At that time, the group planned the release of their first album, which would be called "Caminando despacio sobre el espacio" and which was finally released as "Cuando brille el tiempo" in 1974. The changes in their formation were not long in coming and Alberto Onetto replaced Alex Suker and Carlos Salazar did the same with Pitman. In the spring of that 1974 the group traveled to Bolivia to perform on various stages and later it did so in Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia, and in mid-1975 it dissolved. Jorge Montes joined Pappo's Blues after a few months.
