German comedian and songwriter (born September 29, 1870 in Breslau, Silesia, Germany) Born in Germany as Leon Fuchs, Frischer emigrated in July 1889 to the United States and settled in New York City. In January 1931, he became a naturalized U.S. citizen. From at least 1898 to 1901, he belonged to the ensemble of the leading German theater in New York City, the Irving Place Theater. In 1903, he played at the Germania Theater in St. Louis, MO., By 1909, he was back in New York City and served as superintendent of the Neues Deutsches Theater on 59th Street. Under his artist name, Carl Frischer, he recorded for Columbia (1915-1925), Victor (1916-1924), Vocalion (2) (1922), Strong (2) (1923), The New Emerson (1924), and Brunswick (1928), among others.
