Finnish-Swedish music teacher, recorder player, musicologist, author and professor, born June 19, 1930 in Turku. He is the son of the music researcher Greta Dahlström and history professor Svante Dahlström. Dahlström studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and obtained a diploma in clarinet in 1951 and a music teacher's degree in 1955, and then studied at Åbo Akademi University, where he obtained a degree. lic.-degree 1972. He was city conductor in Hanko, senior lecturer in music at Ekenäs seminary and senior lecturer in didactics at the Teacher Training College in Vaasa, and director of the Department of Musicology at Turku Academy (Sibelius Museum). Dahlström's research has mainly focused on Finnish-Swedish music life, in particular Bernhard Crusell, Jean Sibelius and Nils-Eric Fougstedt. He defended his dissertation in 1976 at Åbo Akademi University on the dissertation Bernhard Henrik Crusell: the clarinetist and his major instrumental works. Also noteworthy is the publication of the correspondence between Jean Sibelius and Axel Carpelan. Dahlström received the Music Achievement of the Year award from Finnish Radio 2005 for his Sibelius research. He was awarded the Royal Academy of Music's scholarship in 2006 for his Sibelius publication and he also received the Swedish Literary Society's medal "Research and Witness".
