American Gospel and R&B singer based in Memphis. Not to be confused with Joe Hinton Soul singer, songwriter and producer for Motown. Born November 15, 1929 in Evansville, Indiana. Died August 13, 1968 in Boston, Massachusetts. Former gospel singer with The Chosen Gospel Singers (Nashboro) and The Spirit Of Memphis Quartet (Peacock Records); moved to Peacock's subsidiary Back Beat (2) to record R & B, scoring his biggest hit in 1964 with Willie Nelson's "Funny (How Time Slips Away)".
