English drummer, percussionist/timpanist, vibraphonist, trumpeter, backing vocalist, and conductor. Born 25 October 1946 (or 26 October 1941) in London, England, UK. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music. He began his career in 1963 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra where he stayed for 5 years. He was a founder member of a number of ensembles, including The Nash Ensemble, Fires Of London and the London Sinfonietta. During the 1960s, he also worked as a session musician with various pop artists such as The Beatles, Danny Kaye (2), Frank Sinatra, John Martyn, Olivia Newton-John, Elton John and David Essex, among many others. He also played in many commercial recordings, TV shows and movie soundtracks. In 1979, he joined classical guitarist John Williams (7), keyboard player Francis Monkman, guitarist Kevin Peek, and bassist Herbie Flowers in the progressive rock group Sky (4) where he stayed until 1995. Longtime member and Principal Timpani with The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields orchestra, he has performed on most of their recordings and in concert. He has also given many solo concerts of avant garde percussion repertoire. In 2011 he played timpani with The London Chamber Orchestra at the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
