Christian Friedrich Schale

C. F. Schale was born in 1713 on the cathedral island in Brandenburg / Havel, his father was vicar of the cathedral chapter. In 1763 he was appointed organist of the Berlin Cathedral. Schale was active as an organist, harpsichordist and composer at a time when the style of composition for keyboard instruments was changing: towards the (later) Viennese Classicism. His harpsichord sonatas, like those of Platti, are of particular interest from a music-historical point of view because they reflect precisely this hinge, this connection between the style of the High Baroque and the style of Haydn and Mozart.
