Betrayer

Death metal band from Poland formed in 1989 in Słupsk. BETRAYER was formed in 1989 as a thrash metal quartet and as such, in 1990, recorded their first demo "Forbidden Personality". The same year comes a change in the line-up and the band was joined by Piotr BERIAL Kuziola, bassist and vocalist of SLAUGHTER, a group that had already been one of the leading Polish underground metal bands (Later on Berial also held a bass guitar for VADER for a short time). The appearance of Berial, who also took over the place behind a microphone, inspired BETRAYER to drift towards stronger and more extreme sounds. That was a turning point and the beginning of a new era for the band. In 1991 BETRAYER releases their second demo "Necronomical Exmortis" recorded in the CCS studio in Warsaw and issued under the label of CARNAGE RECORDS. The demo met a great feedback and as a result, in THRASH'EM ALL MAGAZINE’s summary of 1991, was ranked at # 2 in category of „Album of the year”. Up to this day the release is regarded as one of the milestones for Polish death metal music. BETRAYER as a band hit the 4th place of the poll. BETRAYER continues to expand, playing lots of concerts and working on a new material. In January 1994 the band enters the MODERN SOUND STUDIO in Gdynia and records the first full-lenght album CALAMITY. The album was released under the flag of NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS and landed on the shelves of many stores around the world. In that time it was, next to VADER’s debiut album, the greatest Polish death metal release on such a large scale. This album also gained a tremendous feedback and sealed very strong position of BETRAYER on the domestic death metal scene. Nowadays is record is treaded as another cult milestone in Polish death metal history and BETRAYER is considered one of the precursors of genre in Poland. The quartet has performed at the most prestigious events and concerts, gaining more and more recognition and strengthening its position on the death metal pedestal. They played at METALMANIA (twice), DEATH METAL FESTIVAL (twice), DRAMMA, SHARK ATTACK, S’TRASH'YDŁO, JAROCIN (twice) and more, alongside such hordes like MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, DEATH, CARCASS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, THERION, MORGOTH, GRAVE, TIAMAT, DISMEMBER, SINISTER, UNLISHED, AT THE GATES and many others, not counting the weight of the leading bands of the native scene such as VADER, KAT, IMPERATOR, PANDEMONIUM, CHRIST AGONY, ARMAGEDON… Unfortunately, shortly after the release of „Calamity”, Ripper signaled parting with the band. That fact had destructive effect to morale of the group and after a few months of struggle with adversity, BETRAYER eventually quit their work, thereby ruining promising future. At the end of 2012, after 18 years of non-existence Berial, with support of a guitarist Krzysztof Tubaja and a drummer Piotr VJADER Majka, brings BETRAYER back to life and the group is gearing up for a big return with a new album now. However the band planned to release a new record before going onstage it was inevitable to play some gigs before. Reinforced by a second guitarist Slawek MOKRY Tomkiewicz, BETRAYER took part in Ragnarock Open Air Festival in Germany, July 2013, which was the first life appeariance since the comeback. Consequently the band have played several more gigs arousing tremendous interest and meeting lots of positive comments and feedback where proved that BETRAYER is in a very good shape and knows what solid andkilling death metal is . In June 2014 the band appears at AAAAAAARRGHH SZCZECIN EXTREME FEST as the main support for American legend- OBITUARY. In the meantime in cooperation with Fallen Temple, BETRAYER releases a 7” limited edition vinyl split which features „Beware”- one of the new songs in raw unmastered version and also publishes a video clip with the track. At the end of 2014 Betrayer signed with Mystic Production and in March 2015, in colaboration with Witching Hour Productions, released a new album „Infernum In Terra”. Nine songs, nearly forty minutes of extraordinary old school death metal has been recorded and mixed in a band's private Antubis Studio and then mastered in highly recognizable Hertz Studio (Vader, Behemoth, Decapitated, Hate and many others). Shortly afterwards Betrayer moves on tour "Infernum In Poland Tour 2015" and plays many gigs and concerts all around Poland as well as some festivals which again proved Betrayer to be in brilliant condition and still very reckognizable and respected part of Polish Death Metal Scene.
