The Shermans were formed in December 1997 by Mikael Matsson and Torbjorn Thorsen after the break up of Mikael's old band, Red Sleeping Beauty. The Sherman's first recordings, "The Sound of Shermans," was released as a 7" single on the American label Blackbean and Placenta. The band recruited Chrisster Nilsson to play bass and began playing live shows in and around their hometown. Eventually Torbjorn left the band to start another band, Aerospace and was soon replaced by Ingela Karlsson as the new Shermans vocalist. The Japanese label Quince (who had previously licensed the two Red Sleeping Beauty albums in Japan) showed interest in releasing a Shermans album. The band compiled all of the Shermans early singles and compilation tracks (with vocals by Torbjorn), along with several new songs, on one cd called "Casual." Universal Records (Philippines) licensed "Casual" in May 2000 on CD and cassette. Four of these songs also appeared on a 7" single released by Fantastic Records (USA) in the summer of 2000. In late 1999, the Shermans joined the Shelflife label. The album "In Technicolor" was their inaugural full-length release in the US in spring 2000. Eleven catchy masterpieces for all sunshine pop fans. In early 2001, Shelflife re-released "Casual" for the US. The band continued to write and record more new songs during 2000-2001. Shelflife released a new CDep titled "Falling out of Love" in Spring 2001 with California's Sky Blue Records. The Ep contained 4 new tracks, plus the title track from their forthcoming album "Happiness is Toy Shaped". This full length cd showcases the Shermans new girlgroup sound influenced by jangle pop, and will be available in the fall of 2001.
