The only member of Kago - Lauri Sommer - is probably more known as a poet and a cultural scientist. He picked up music in the beginning of '90s, playing guitar or drums in Viljandi's (his hometown) various punk bands. In mid-'90s, he sang in a choir, was active in a dada-electro project Tuljak!, sang and played guitar in an indie-band "Drunken Pilgrims" and in the same time picked up some influences from folklore music and English national tunes. In the beginning of the new millenium, Lauri joined the world's only seto male choir. (Seto is a kind-of different dialect of the Estonian language with it's own culture and traditions amongst the speakers; geographically, setos and the Seto-land is situated in the South-Eastern part of Estonia, and as the word for "South-East" in seto language is "kago", this is where the artist's name comes from). It was around that time he also picked up his artist name Kago. Kago's music is as far from the mainstream Estonian pop as Seto-land is from Estonia's capital Tallinn (which is in the northern coast of Estonia, completely the opposite side of the country). The debut album "Piimash" is probably a naive lo-fi folk album for lonesome people: piano instrumentals, accoustic material which was sometimes treated electronically, folk songs, childish instrumentals etc.. After the debut release, Kago's sound experiments continue: addition of unexpected home-made sound samples recorded with a dictaphone, etc..
