Swedish cellist, composer and conductor, born April 15, 1955. He studied cello at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm for Gunnar Norrby and Åke Olofsson, where he received a soloist diploma (1980) and a degree in cello pedagogy. Further studies then took place in London for William Pleeth. Composition studied Torbjörn Nilsson for Lars-Erik Rosell and conducting for Per Lyng, Peter Csaba and Jorma Panula. Torbjörn Nilsson was one of the initiators of the chamber music group Sonanza, of which he was a member from 1982-1994. The group toured throughout the Nordics, Ireland, England, Germany, Czechoslovakia and the United States and recorded radio, television programs and a number of records. In 1985 the Sonanza Phonogram Prize was awarded and in 1990 the "Crystal the Fine Prize". Furthermore, Torbjörn Nilsson was a member of the Goksöyr trio (1987-2000), which later became Trio Lento. Since 1993, Torbjörn Nilsson has had annual "Bach marathons" in Stockholm Cathedral Parish together with the organist Michael Waldenby, a collaboration that lasted for over 30 years. In 1997, the collaboration with pianist Anette Mûller-Roos began. As conductor, Torbjörn Nilsson has been artistic director of the St. Clara Chamber Orchestra, and since 2005 conductor and organizer of the Response Sinfonietta. Torbjörn Nilsson has taught at Solna Music and Dance School (1983-1991), the Conservatory of Music Falun (1991-93) and Sigtuna Cultural School (1989 -).
