American Bluegrass banjoist and songwriter. BMI IPI #: 407489049. Born in Aurora, Illinois, Dave spent his extra-curricular time at the University of Illinois learning banjo. "When I first got my hands on the banjo, I felt like I could immediately make music with it. It just made me feel a certain way that the other instruments really didn’t." The roots of Yonder Mountain String Band can be traced back to Johnston playing music with Jeff Austin (2) in Champagne, Illinois. Their band was called the Bluegrassholes.
