Born 1919, South Shields, died 9 September 2008, aged 89. Singer with Joe Loss & His Orchestra, Eric Winstone, Harry Leader and Jack Payne. Elizabeth was from South Shields in the north east of England, and recorded with Joe Loss from 1943 to 1949. She was married to Harry Bence, who had played saxophone and clarinet with the Loss band. Batey married Bence in Croydon in 1955, and they had a son, Frederick (Freddy). She latterly resided in Southport, Lancashire.
