Leona Philippo was born in Toronto, Canada in 1979. She started her career at the age of 3, when she started to play the piano. At the age of 6, Leona established herself with her adoptive family in Oestgeest, the Netherlands. Here she enrolled at the Conservatory of Music in Rotterdam at the age of 17. She cut her education short after her 3rd year. She performed in 1999 as support act for Dru Hill with the Dutch R&B group Sat-R-Day in Ahoy (Rotterdam). She succeeded in being asked to accompany Arling & Cameron and Junkie XL on their Tokyo Tour in 2000. On December 14, 2012, she won the title for season 3 of the Dutch reality television music competition The Voice of Holland.
