Jerry Palmer

Gerry Godick was born in Vita, Manitoba and raised in Fort William, Ontario (now Thunder Bay, Ontario), where he met and signed a management pact with Don Grashey (Myrna Lorrie, Carroll Baker, etc.), and took on the stage name Jerry Palmer. His early years in music during the late 1950's-early 60's were in the rock 'n roll vein, scoring a series of nationally charted singles and touring extensively on the U.S. scene including appearances on Dick Clark's Bandstand TV Show. Thanks to his dynamic voice and stage presence he soon earned the name "Mr. Entertainer". While still on Don Grashey's Gaiety Records label, Jerry Palmer turned his musical interests towards "country", and became one of Canada's most prominent recording acts of the 70's, releasing albums on the Quality, Gaiety, Birchmount, RCA Victor and Golden Eagle record labels. Palmer charted over a dozen singles including six Top 10 hits and in 1976 scored a #1 hit with "One Way Ticket To A Lady". Much of Jerry Palmer's recorded material was self-penned and/or co-written with his mentor Don Grashey. Throughout his career Jerry Palmer frequently stepped out of the spotlight and put his music on hold, only to make sporadic comebacks. A 1977 duet offering with Carroll Baker of the Myrna Lorrie/Don Grashey hit compositions "Are You Mine", attracted heavy radio airplay; and he made occasional guest appearances on Canadian country TV shows of the period. Palmer periodically released new material in latter years, none of which helped put him back in the spotlight that he enjoyed earlier.
