Turkish contemporary composer and music educator (b. 5 April 1965, Istanbul, Turkey). Hasan Uçarsu works in various modern classical genres, from choral music to solo and chamber instrumental pieces and large orchestras. His compositions were performed by numerous prominent ensembles, including Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project. Hasan Uçarsu studied composition at Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi (MSGSÜ) in Istanbul, starting his undergraduate program under Ahmed Adnan Saygun in 1983 and further trained by Cengiz Tanç. In 1991, Hasan began lecturing at his alma mater. In 1994, Hasan Uçarsu pursued doctorate studies with George Crumb and Richard Wernick at The University Of Pennsylvania, earning his Ph.D. in composition in '97. After returning from the United States, Uçarsu rejoined the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSÜ) faculty, appointed as an Associate Professor in 1998 and full Professor in 2009. Hasan Uçarsu also served as a guest composer and Professor at The University Of Memphis.
