Jazz group led by trombonist Eric Alllandale. The line-up as noted in the Wednesday, April 5, 1961 issue of Jazz News was Allandale on trombone, Will Hastie on clarinet, Geoff Brown on Trumpet, Jim Goudie on bass, Eddie Edwards on banjo and Laurie Chescoe on drums. Their business contact was Lyn Dutton Agency at 8 Great Chappel St,. London, W.1.. Another member of the band was drummer Colin Miller (6). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ERIC ALLANDALE Allandale who was born in Dominica, West Indies came to the UK around 1954. He had previously played with the Hammersmith Borough Brass Band. At that time he was playing trumpet. A splinter group from the band was formed to play Traditional Jazz. Due to a trumpet player getting in first, Allandale took up trombone. Then around 1956, the band became his. He left this ensemble in 1958 to join Teddy Leyton and Sonny Morris for two years. Allendale appeared on the front cover of Jazz News, issue - 14th March, 1962 In 1966/1967, he joined a group formerly known as The Ramong Sound and fronted by Raymond Morrison, The Foundations. In later years he was a member of African group, Sunburst (6). He died on 23 August 2001 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ LAURIE CHESCOE Drummer Laurie Chescoe was born in Clapham. He was a lab technician and played with the Guys Hospital Band. Described as an aspiring jazz critic in 1961, and prior to his New Orleans Knights membership he had played with Colin Smith, Teddy Leyton and Sonny Morris. In 1979 he joined the Alex Walsh band. In 2003, he joined Phil Mason’s All Stars Band, working with them up to Phil’s retirement in 2010. Then later that year, he joined Bob Dwyer's Bix and Pieces. As of 2015, he was in Laurie Chescoe's Reunion Band. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ CAREER The New Orleans Knights had two singles released on Columbia. The first, "Little Hans" bw " Dominican Carnival" was released on Columbia 5-DB 4773 . It was also released in Germany on the Metronome label (cat# B 1521) as "Hänschen Klein (Little Hans)". Their next single, "Enjoy Yourself ( It's Later Than You Think )" bw "In A Little Spanish Town" was released on Columbia 45-DB 4844 the same year.
