Australian rock group formed 1967 in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia. The five original band members (three siblings and two others) along with two dancers and a guest singer, left for Vietnam on May 16, 1971. They spent seven long and dangerous months travelling the length and breadth of the Republic, at not only the major installations, but to remote outposts and 'back blocks' of war ravaged Vietnam and during those gruelling hard long 7 months 'in country' entertained over 60,000 Allied troops. Xanadu later continued with a successful musical career touring through the UK, and Europe (they were commercially successful in Germany, Holland and Belgium especially) with greats such as Leo Sayer, Sting, The Police, Sex Pistols, Bee Gees and other well known rock acts before returning to Australia in the late 1970s. The group changed their name to Soho (13) shortly after the song Xanadu was released in 1980. They are the subject of a book on their Vietnam experiences, "A Dangerous Place To Play: The True Story of a Rock Group in Vietnam" (2015) by J.D. Owen.
