Andy Blakeney

American trumpeter and band leader, born June 10, 1898 in Quitman, Mississippi. Worked in Chicago with King Oliver and others, moved to Los Angeles in 1926, where he recorded with Sonny Clay and Reb Spikes. In 1935 joined Lionel Hampton, led his own band in Hawaii 1936-1941, then with Ceele Burke's big band 1942-1946. Recorded with Kid Ory 1946. For the next 20 years led own bands. Toured Europe in 1974 with The Legends Of Jazz, recorded with The Eagle Brass Band in 1984.
