Born: September 29, 1925 Moore Haven, Glades County, Florida Died: December 30, 2010 Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida Gospel guitarist/songwriter from Miami, Florida. Inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame as a part of The Consolers. One of 5 siblings adopted after his mother perished in a 1926 hurricane, Pugh's singing career began as a young child in Miami's First Born Church of the Living God. He would remain an active member there until his death. He met Iola Pugh while she was a singer with the Miami Gospel Singers. They married in 1950. In 195f2, the Pughs formed a trio, The Miami Soul Stirrers named after the Chicago group) along with Pearl Nance-Radford recording for Glory (4). In 1953, Nance-Rayford left the group and the duo continued as the re-christened The Spiritual Consolaters (later changed to Spiritual Consolers on the advice of a New York deejay), cutting sides for DeLuxe (2). When signing with Nashboro in 1955, they shortened it to The Consolers. The group recorded twenty-five albums over a forty year career. Pugh died at his home in Miami at the age of 85.
