Rory Hannan

Rory Hannan was one of five students selected nationally as a Speak Percussion Emerging Artist in 2010-11. He studies classical percussion with John Arcaro and drum kit with Graeme Morgan at the VCA Secondary School. He also enjoys playing congas, bongos, timbales, bedir and other hand drums. Rory is exploring improvisation with rhythms, texture and timbre, and experiments with materials to create new instruments and sounds—an interest since childhood. Improvisation is a part of the traditional music he has grown up with. He joined his aunts, uncles and cousins in the Xylouris Ensemble for the first time in 2010.
