Swedish cellist and cello professor, born on May 28, 1983 in Oscar, Stockholm, Uppland. Koranyi began studying cello in 1999, first at Kungliga Musikhögskolan I Stockholm's chamber music education at Edsberg Manor (In Sw. 'Edsbergs slott'), for Torleif Thedéen, later, for Ralph Kirshbaum, at the Royal Northern College Of Music in Manchester, United Kingdom, and, for Frans Helmerson, at Musikhochschule Köln in Germany. He was awarded 'Prix d'honneur' and the Ferminich Prize ('prix Ferminich') in 2006 at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. Awarded the second grand prize at 'Le concours de violoncelle Rostropovitch' (Cello Competition Mstislav Rostropovich) in Paris in 2009 and the special prize for best interpretation of Dmitri Shostakovich's concert No 1 by the Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation. He has won, among others, the Swedish Prizes: Young Musicians in 2002, the Ljunggrenska competition in Gothenburg in 2004 and the Soloist Prize in 2006. In 2017, he also received Sixten Gemzéu's major music scholarship. Orchestral highlights, so far, have included performances with Kungliga Filharmonikerna, Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester, Stavanger Symfoniorkester, Orchestre De Paris, Thüringisches Kammerorchester Weimar, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Gävle Symfoniorkester, Uppsala Kammarorkester, Orchestra Regionale Filarmonia Veneta, Göteborgs Symfoniker, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborgs Symfoniorkester and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. Since in May in 2022, he is employed as professor at the instittute for classical music at Kungliga Musikhögskolan I Stockholm. His parents are the Swedish violinist Marie Alemo and Gabor Koranyi, Swedish eye surgeon of Hungarian descent.
