Horace Ove

Trinidad and Tobago-born British filmmaker, photographer, painter, and writer based in London, England. Born 3 December 1936 in Belmont, Trinidad. Died 16 September 2023 in London, England, United Kingdom. Horace Ové became the first Black British director to make a feature-length film, "Pressure" (1975), which depicted the struggles of Black Britons in racist London. He also made documentaries, such as "Reggae" (1971), "King Carnival" (1973), "Skateboard Kings" (1978) and "Who Shall We Tell" (1985), as well as a comedy, "Playing Away" (1987). He was known for his naturalistic style and his interest in characters who were trapped by their circumstances. He was knighted in 2022 for his services to media.
