American contemporary visual artist, filmmaker, writer and educator (b. 25 October 1959, Cleveland, Ohio). Renée Green works across various media, including sculpture and architecture, photography, video, film, sound, and complex, multi-layered installations. She currently serves as a Professor at the Art, Culture and Technology Program at MIT's School of Architecture and Planning. In 2014, Duke University Press published Other Planes of There: Selected Writings, a compilation of her 1981–2010 works. Renée's younger brother, Derrick Green (b. 1971), is the frontman and lead vocalist of the Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura. Renee Green studied art at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, with an intermediary year at the School of Visual Arts, NYC. She also participated in the Independent Study Program (ISP) at the Whitney Museum Of American Art in 1989. (Green returned to Whitney's ISP as the guest faculty in '91 and served as Director of the Study Program in 1996–97.) Renée Green spent five years in Austria, employed as a Professor at Akademie Der Bildenden Künste Wien from 1997 to 2002. After returning to the United States, Green served as a Distinguished Artist Professor at UC Santa Barbara (2003) and was Professor and Dean of Graduate Studies at San Francisco Art Institute (2005–2011).
