Profile: Think Tank was an Alternative Rock / Progressive Metal band from Auckland, New Zealand, 1993-1996. Think Tank began in January 1993 as a recording project and originally had Dee Solomon (aka. Morpheus Ire) on guitar / vocals and Geoffrey Briggs on drums / bass (both ex-Entropy & Hieronymus Bosch). The line up morphed around mid-'93 into a live 'power trio' with the addition of Gabriel Wilkinson (also of Canis) on bass. The band's sound was quite heavily indebted to the long running Canadian futurist metal outfit Voivod; other influences included Treponem Pal, Killing Joke, Prong, Die Kreuzen, Jesus Lizard, Fugazi, Soundgarden, Bauhaus, Rush and King Crimson. Their first show with the three-piece line up was staged at Punch & Judys on the Auckland Waterfront in August 1993 followed by The Gluepot in September. The band gigged extensively around Auckland City from 1993-1996, touring once to New Plymouth in winter '95 for the Mushroom Ball. The band played support to the long-running Canadian jazz / hardcore punk outfit NoMeansNo, on the Auckland date of their 'Worldhood of the World' tour at The Powerstation in 1995. The band recorded at Auckland studios The Lab, Ground Zero and Eddie Rayner's Revolver studio, at which they were taken onto a 'new talent promotional' type programme in 1995.
