Shep Spinney started playing guitar at the age of seven and began playing on stage at the age of 10 with his father's band. Spinney was a childhood friend of guitarist Lenny Breau. Shep's band The Javalans was signed to Event Records, and in 1959 they had a hit with the song "Cynthia" which was co-written by Spinney. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965 in the NSGA. While stationed in Germany he was staff guitarist for Teldec Records. He continued to play and tour throughout his life. He died on June 11, 2014 (age 72)
